Jig and minnow.  Casting into shore from a boat or off of shore without a boat.  Very light weight jig heads.  Find sandy or rocky shore lines or find existing reed lines.  Easy stuff.

Early in season for walleye, I use light jig & minnow also. I use 1/32 to 1/16 most of the time with 4lbs. - 6lbs. test. One thing I think is important is hold your pole vertically. I jig it that way so jig comes up off the bottom. Fish slowly as I can I only reel to take up slack as jig falls to keep line taught. this is usually when they hit. Vary speeds & how aggressive you jig til you find the right combination they want.  As spring progresses I switch to casting count downs.  These I cast it out, do not reel right away. let it drop. then as I reel it it I jig pole horizontally.  Adjusting on speed of retrivial to finding what they like.
